Reflection

I have learned some thing about the importance of teamwork. Agreeing. I think the reason why everything went so smoothly during the project was because whenever somebody suggested an idea nobody really rejected it nor disagreed with it. We just went along with the first thing suggested. This is also meant that we didn’t exactly come up with the best ideas or ways to work during our project, instead, everything was done in a manner of convenience, which is probably how our work got done really fast compared to others around us.

I enjoyed creating miniatures for the sets being build and the video editing. However, it was both very stressful as other people’s opinions were involved whenever a creative decision were to be made. Therefore, I could not enjoy the process as much as I could.

I did dislike the teamwork overall as everybody seems like they’re walking on eggshells around each other. Whenever our opinions were involved, everybody will try to give either very vague comments or just mention something like “that’s good!” or “that’s nice!” something along the lines of these type of comments, which in my opinion led to a very half baked animation. This made me, the video editor very stressed over how to make the animation look better even though not much thought was being put into the recording of the stop-motion itself. The stress was also due to the fact that majority of the team did not follow the original animatic we agreed upon very well, and I also had to 2D animate over each animated scene when it came to the character's facial expression, which I spend quite a long while on it (I definitely under estimated the amount of time required to do the 2D animating, including learning how to use Adobe Animate as well).

I feel that the animatic is better than the actual animation itself, due to the animation recordings itself not following the timing intended for the flow of the animation shown in the animatic. I remember specifically when I received majority of the footages for the animation to edit together, there were about 20 seconds worth of animation missing, making it harder to pace the animation properly. Therefore, even after showing the animation to the class, I was not very satisfied with it. I do not think our team were quite satisfied with it too.

This taught me one huge lesson: Working smart. At first, when we started planning the animation itself, everybody was so exicted and pumped up for it, but towards the end, we were burntout and exhausted, and that was probably why the animation itself looked like it was not very well done. I felt like we cold have taken this at a slower pace, especially since we actually completed the sets earlier than expected. However, instead, we decided to try to improve the sets further, along with the characters and the way they were designed, that by the time it came to actually caputring animation frame-by-frame, everybody in the team were just down and unmotivated to do anything. We were just trying to quickly get everything on dragon frame and passing everything to me to complete the whole animation. I think that if we were to use that extra time we had to film our animation earlier instead of following the given timeline to follow, we could have perhaps done a better animation overall. I think that if we had spreaded out our enerygy and not spent it at one go, we would have better stamina to last towards the end of this project.
